I’m a historian who studies exploration, science, and the objects and images that make up our world. My work has focused on the history of gear for expeditions to extreme environments in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: “unpacking packing.” However, I’ve researched and written about everything from Victorian women’s fashion to chocolate advertisements and Arctic cartoons. I love old stuff!

My interests have led me to pursue an M.A. at the Bard Graduate Center and a Ph.D. in Yale University’s History of Science and Medicine Program. I’ve curated exhibitions, written for academic journals, magazines, and public-facing blogs, appeared on podcasts, and given professional talks north of the Arctic Circle. Please get in touch if you’re interested in what I do!
